since I've posted anything but birthday messages here. It's also been just about exactly a year since we arrived here in Florida. We've had a great year and settled in quite nicely. The town we live in is great for families, lots of parks, walking/biking trails and other free things to do. Everyone has made new friends and we are getting used to the weather. Just hoping that the hurricane season won't be too bad. I really don't know how to condense a year of living into a short post, so I'm not even going to try. Just know that I've tried to keep up with everyone's news but have been not commenting as I should.

I will say that I am very envious of you all getting together this week at Infinitus. I would love to meet you all and go again to see The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. And yes I do mean again. We surprised the boys with a whirlwind trip to Orlando July 1st. The 3 small pics below are not too spoilery but I didn't want to ruin anything for anybody.

here are some observations and pics )

I hope you all have an amazing time here in Florida.

Good things:

-New president = good thing for everyone and not just the U.S

-first female senator from New Hampshire as [livejournal.com profile] averygoodun pointed out

-my congresswoman was re-elected

Not so good thing:

-Hubby lost his election by 2,056 votes. He worked incredibly hard for the over 10,000 votes he did receive. Knocking on doors in almost half of the city and one other town to meet people and introduce himself took a tremendous amount of time and effort. Unfortunately he hardly has time to process this as he just left for a three day conference up north for work. He was sounding somewhat optimistic about doing it again in two years, though.

It's going to take some getting used to having him home every weekend. He's been campaigning for months and I fear we're used to him being out and about or just busy with stuff. It will be very good for the boys to spend some time with just their dad and I'm trying to find time for a "date night" or even an afternoon movie and then dinner. I'm just glad it's over for now.

Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

Just one of a few issues that I feel deeply about where hubby disagrees. Then again any marriage or union should be about partners who can agree or disagree and still be equals(in everything) who love each other.

Civil Unions are legal here in NH, though the rights and benefits are extremely limited. They have a very nifty comparison chart available. In addition, if you ever move from NH the union is not recognized and what little rights there were are void.

I have the best neighbors. Son2 has discovered that a friend from his class lives down the street, close enough for him to cross by himself with the neighbor girl. Anyway, Mrs. B just called to ask if it was ok for the kids to join them for pizza. Hell, yes. It's sure to be a much better dinner than the leftovers I had planned. I'll say it again. I have the greatest neighbors.

Our last soccer game of the season is tomorrow so things are about to slow down a bit. Anyway, take care everyone. Have a good weekend!

edit: Apparently son1 was fed pizza by the next door neighbor while he was playing with his friend. Woohoo! Go good neighbors. And no whining about leftovers from anyone. I'll have to think of some really good snacks to have on hand while babysitting these children so I can try to make up for all this.

always a librarian I suppose. I've just been playing around with the new catalog system of our local library consortium, which consists of ten public libraries and two academic libraries all in different towns. One card and I can borrow from any of them and have the books delivered to my local branch library for me to pick up. That part is not new, but oh the new catalog. What a joy to use and being the geek I am, I can also see the cataloging record for each entry. I've already placed two requests and the system has only been up less than 24 hours. It's the small things in life that keep me happy and bring me joy.

It seems that the custom license plate craze has now intruded on the HP world. I was driving home today from a big box store and was behind a man with this on his SUV:
